The Konjac sponge & why you need to buy one ASAP

I'll admit that when I first heard about the Konjac sponge, I thought it was kinda gimmick-y and it was just another quirky product with not-so-realistic claims. I can also now admit that I was completely wrong & this product is a must-have in your skincare collection!

What is a Konjac sponge?

Made from the roots of the Konjac plant (also known as the 'Devil's Tongue...), the sponge is a gentle daily exfoliating tool that is 100% organic and biodegradable. It can be used alone or with your favourite cleanser & is recommended for all skin types! Grown in East Asia, it has always been a popular exfoliator in Japan & Korea and it's slowly making it's way here in the West! There are different sizes available so you can use them for your face as well as your body and should be replaced every 4-6 weeks once they start to feel less 'spongey'.

The sponges come in different colours which can offer you with additional benefits. The ones I use are infused with black charcoal which is great for oily skin, large pores and preventing blemishes!

How do you use it?

The Konjac sponge is only to be used while damp. To use, simply soak it in a bowl of water for 1-2mins (recommended) or if you're impatient just run it under a tap until you see it expand & take a 'sponge' form. Gently squeeze out the excess water and begin to exfoliate your face in circular motions using minimal pressure. Work the sponge upwards (a downwards motion will cause premature wrinkles and sagging) and then outwards (helps circulation in your skin and pushes out toxins). Use this all over your face and neck. Once finished, rinse your sponge and hang to dry!

DISCLAIMER: Do not try and use this sponge while it is dry. It will be incredibly abrasive and your skin doesn't deserve that kind of hate!

The results

Using this the first time may feel slightly weird because there is no substance foaming up - it's literally just your face + a konjac sponge + water! But after patting your face dry, you will reveal a much brighter & smooth complexion! After my first use I was shocked at how effectively the sponge was able to clear my pores, rebalance the oils on my face and leave my skin looking fresh & pure! The Konjac sponge is gentle (was originally made for babies) but still manages to give your skin the deep-cleanse it needs which is why it should be a cult skincare product no matter your skin type!

What I love about this product is that it's so simple to implement into your routine! If you're easily overwhelmed with the idea of finding the perfect exfoliator, buy this! It's also great for travelling too. It's small, light & you don't have to worry about it being over 100ml! You can use this twice a day but I wouldn't rely on this to take your makeup off with. Your Konjac sponge will last much longer if you use it as the final step of your cleansing routine.
